Jose Mourinho on Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

All I know is that talking about who is the best player in the world should be banned because they are both from another planet.

Debería estar prohibido elegir quién es el mejor jugador del mundo porque estos dos son de otro planeta.

~ Jose Mourinho, 7 October 2012

After Real Madrid and Barcelona drew the latest El Clasico 2 -2, Jose Mourinho gave the great quote above about the two best players in the world, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored all four goals in the match. I’m not sure that football fans realize how good we have it. These two are quickly becoming the planet’s biggest superstars and we are watching it unfold.

Steve McManaman on El Clasico

We knocked them out of the Champions League semi-final in 2002. We beat them 2-0 at their place in the first leg and the celebrations in our dressing room were incredible. It was mainly led by the Madrid-born players because they knew how big the victory was, so you fully understood it all then.

Steve McManaman reflecting on playing in El Clasico for Real Madrid. It’s more than a game.

Miroslave Klose on fair play

It’s a big honor for me to receive this award. But I am also a bit irritated. For me, it was something you should always do. I would do it again – always.

~ Miroslav Klose, 26 September 2012

Lazio’s Miroslav Klose handled the ball into the goal, but came clean and admitted what he had done. The goal, which the official originally allowed, was reversed. Klose was spared a yellow card and Lazio went on to lose by three. Klose’s remarks above came after he was given the Fair Play award for his honesty.

Sir Alex Ferguson on the Champions League

Have you seen the last six World Cups? It is better going to the dentist I suppose. The important thing is the Champions League has proved itself since its inception. It is better than the World Cup. It is unbelievable. There are some fantastic games. Yes, you have to get through the group stages before you get to the really exciting stage but it is a fantastic tournament.
